The Lead Lab Technician will be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Packaging Quality Assurance staff, while ensuring “first time right” of all packaged beverages.

STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Rochester, NY
JOB TYPE: Non-Exempt
SHIFT: Off-shifts and weekend availability required

Product Safety & Quality
Product testing and inspections
Assist in the monitoring of Quality Assurance testing to ensure product safety and quality are met
Aid management in new product/raw material qualifications
Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their assigned area
Performs essential product testing tasks (can seam checks, draft checks, etc.) or others as defined by their supervisor
Non-conforming product and disposition
Ensures non-conforming raw ingredients and finished goods are identified, properly placed on hold, communication, and dispositioned per FIFCO USA food safety and quality policies
Work with all departments (Production, Maintenance, Qualtiy, etc.) on non-conformance investigations, root cause and corrective/preventative action
Provide timely feedback to suppliers regarding quality non-conformance, inclusive of filing and tracking of quality-related IRs Records
Ensures all quality-related Operator and Assurance records are completed, reviewed, and stored in accordance to legal and good manufacturing practices
Perform daily data review of Quality Control records to ensure accuracy and to identify process improvement gaps
Laboratory Operations
Accurate testing, inspection, and data collection
Support management in the day-to-day operation of Quality Control testing, inspection, and data collection (including incoming raw materials, in-process materials/products, and finished goods)
Ensure instrumentation used to perform testing/inspection are calibrated and verified with preventative maintenance completed
Audit established SOP’s/Work Instructions for accuracy and update as needed
Aid management in establishing and writing new SOP’s/Work Instructions for Quality Control Laboratory
Housekeeping and Safety
Performs lab audits to ensure Good Laboratory Practices, as outlined by FIFCO USA, are followed
Ensures self and QC team are following GMP’s
Aid supervisor in the completion of safety-related paperwork, including but not limited to: injury reporting and Safety Data Sheet review
Employees / Effectively Functioning Team
Keep up-to-date on all QA testing processes
Perform analyst testing when empliyees are out of the office
Help identify temporary labor help with management
Help Supervisor with evaluating employee performance and providing feedback as needed
Act as lead trainer for their area of expertise
Must be willing to work off-shifts and weekends for extended periods of time

2-year college degree in Packaging Engineering preferred OR 5+ years of related laboratory experience in a food/beverage production facility
Trained in federal food and/or TTB standards

Ability to read, write, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, managers, vendors, and customers
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret extensive varieties of technical instructions in mathematical or written forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variations
