The Strong is excited to be expanding its education team to meet the needs of increased enrollment in its newly renovated Woodbury School for the 2022-2023 school year as well as an increased demand for facilitated on-site school lesson and field trip experiences. The Education Coordinator supports all aspects of the museum’s educational experiences including coordination of school lesson and field trip logistics and administrative support of the day-to-day Woodbury School operations. This is a ten-month position from mid-August to mid-June each school year.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Create, maintain, and update Woodbury School documentation, including confidential student records, security binders, directories, email lists, and photos.
• Assist Woodbury teachers with organizing parent teacher conferences and participate in parent-teacher conferences as appropriate and required.
• Collaborate with preschool team members to plan, coordinate, support, and attend family meetings and special events.
• Serve as “point person” for Woodbury School when coordinating with other museum teams
• Answer routine parent and family inquiries received by email or phone and refer non-routine matters to the student’s classroom teacher or assistant vice president for education as appropriate.
• Schedule teaching hosts and secure substitutes when necessary. Maintain confirmation records of visiting groups for school programs.
• Prepare, update, distribute, and post school lesson activity guides, signs, and handouts.
• Coordinate preparations for education programs including creating and distributing work orders, reserving museum spaces, and assisting with set-up and take-down of materials used for program, such as the presentation on the computer and necessary play materials.
• Provide support for teachers and/ or teaching assistants in the Woodbury classroom as appropriate during designated teaching planning periods or as a substitute.
• Facilitate school lessons as appropriate and as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The candidate may have any combination of education and experience but should possess the required skills and knowledge for successful performance. Our general minimum requirements are:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an educational environment; experience in early childhood a plus
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and adjust focus throughout the workday
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification for children, including EPI-Pen training, and maintain this certification.
• Ability to complete New York State Mandated Reporter Training.
• Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.
