Lifeguard Lieutenant responsibilities include: Supervising the work of at least one lifeguard and one or more additional summer staff member; Stand watch or patrol beach or swimming pool; Keep bathers within bounds and go to their aid when they are in difficulty; Report staff problems, accidents, and unsafe acts to supervisor for follow-up; Enforce city and Bureau safety policies through regular inspections of facilities and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) months full-time experience as lifeguard. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 17 years of age at time of appointment. Must possess current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health at time of appointment. (When assigned to a position at Durand Eastman Beach, the incumbent will be required to obtain an Open Water Module certification and complete a Department arranged kayak training course.)
