Known widely as the nation’s museum of play, The Strong is home to several key programmatic elements that collectively provide a unique framework through which the museum develops, organizes, and delivers educational services. The marketing coordinator assists in executing effective communication and community-based programs in accordance with the museum’s strategic goals. This position supports the entire marketing team in a variety of day-to-day efforts.
This position requires strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills, plus a high level of maturity and professionalism.
Marketing Coordinator Essential Functions:
-Assist in developing museum-wide social media calendar, with particular emphasis on DEAI initiatives. Implement social media messaging schedules and monitor and respond to social conversations.
-Research and develop targeted audience lists, and assist in the development of related digital assets.
-Coordinate with The Strong’s external digital media partners to create video content for social media and web applications.
-Write promotional copy for museum websites and social media sites, marketing publications, public program schedules, and other materials.
-Coordinate the museum’s email marketing program and strategy. Assist in writing, editing, formatting, and distributing various e-newsletters.
-Coordinate the posting of promotional calendar panels, t-signs, theater signs, and other museum signage as necessary.
-Coordinate promotional giveaways with media partners.
-Copy edit institutional blogs and other materials as needed.
-Assist in the coordination of National Toy Hall of Fame and World Video Game Hall of Fame induction activities.
-Enter and monitor calendar content for the museum’s website and various external websites.
-Record and distribute minutes from marketing implementation team meetings.
-Represent the museum at onsite and offsite events, some of which may be outside of regular working hours, as requested.
-Act as second museum spokesperson when necessary, especially related to public programs, exhibits, and other events.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, public relations, or a broad classification of marketing.
-Two years of experience in marketing communications.
-Strong ability to be proactive and demonstrate flexibility, good judgment, and excellent follow up skills.
-Self-motivated and able to prioritize and organize several simultaneous projects with strong attention to detail and the ability to complete projects in a timely manner.
-Must represent The Strong and the marketing team well to the media, community, and guests.
-Knowledge of all aspects of communications, positioning, and messaging, including industry best practices in both traditional and emerging media platforms.
-Must have excellent English writing skills and be able to effectively communicate as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
-These qualifications are considered a plus:
