ETC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team! This opportunity is located in our Rigging Design Center in Victor, NY, where unique motorized rigging products and systems are designed to support the technical needs of the Entertainment, Commercial and Live Events markets around the world.

We are looking for just the right employee who can fulfill the needs of this diverse position. The ideal candidate will have experience with product development where they have designed, detailed, and documented parts, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies using 2D and 3D design tools such as AutoCAD and Solidworks. Our products are largely comprised of machined parts, weldments, formed sheet metal, shafting, structural members, etc. requiring a strong understanding of material selection and sizing, detailing, applying achievable tolerances, and determining the appropriate clearances and fit.

Representative Responsibilities:
• Performs assigned project tasks under direct supervision of more senior-level engineers
• Participates in the development effort under the direction of management and more senior team members
• Makes design modifications or improvements to development projects with supervision
• Maintains project reference documentation
• Develops test and verification procedures
• May be involved in continuing engineering maintenance and manufacturing floor support of existing products
• Provides task completion time estimates
• Attends identified training classes
• Participates as a team member, works effectively in a team environment
• Becomes familiar with tools and applications utilized by department
• Learns department and corporate policies, procedures, and plans
• Perform calculations for design of rigging systems and structural supports with supervision of senior engineers
• Determine loading, specify components and equipment, and integrate into a system meeting the overall design requirements and safety standards with supervision
• Produce detailed part, assembly, and submittal drawings in Auto-CAD and/or Solidworks
• Work in Word and Excel to create support documents for manufacturing authorization, hoist requirement calculations, weight estimations, shaft sizing, and other data sheets embedded in CAD files
• Perform testing functions on products as required
• Coordinate with venders and subcontractors as needed
• Make and implement suggestions for product and process improvement
• Flexibly work in other roles, such as design, drafting, manufacturing, installation, etc., on an as needed basis to meet deadlines/customer expectations
• Some travel required
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Completes special projects and assignments in a positive and timely manner

Minimum Qualifications:
• Technical Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• All levels of previous job related experience will be considered
• Demonstrates basic written/verbal skills
• Has good grasp of grammar and sentence structure for technical writing
• Listens/gives constructive feedback
• Good group interaction skills
• Ability to follow directions and project plans
• Demonstrates ability to solve problems of limited scope and perform root cause analysis
• Analyzes data using standard, straightforward methods
• Grasps technical concepts and asks for clarification and direction when needed
• Ability to implement designs for well-defined blocks
• Understands and applies accepted engineering principles and practices
• Assists with design or modification of a product, service, or process
• Reasonable knowledge of various low volume assembly methods
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Solidworks a plus
• Ability to maintain individual task list and log time in approved timekeeping program
• Ability to work at heights
• Valid driver’s license required
