Job Description: American Fleet is seeking a skilled and experienced Medium/Heavy Duty Diesel Technician to join our team.
As a Medium/Heavy Duty Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining medium and heavy-duty vehicles within our fleet management program, including trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, extensive experience in medium and heavy-duty vehicle repair, and a dedication to delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities:
• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on diesel engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, emissions systems, braking systems, suspensions, and HVAC components.
• Conduct preventive maintenance including fluid changes, filter replacements, lubrication, inspections, and adjustments in accordance with OEM and DOT standards.
• Complete complex mechanical repairs such as engine overhauls, transmission service, clutch replacements, brake rebuilds, and aftertreatment system repairs (DPF, SCR, DEF).
• Conduct thorough inspections to identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently and in accordance with company standards.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment and technology to diagnose vehicle problems accurately.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used.
• Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure efficient workflow.
• Other duties as necessary or assigned. 

Requirements:
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Medium/Heavy Duty Technician
• Extensive knowledge of medium and heavy-duty vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems, required.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record, required.
• ASE Certification, preferred.
• NYS Inspector’s License, required.

Position Qualifications:
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to reach overhead, under vehicles and into tight spaces to perform mechanical repairs
• Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing 50lbs and occasionally move up to 100lbs with assistant or proper equipment
• Frequent use of hands and arms to handle tools, parts and equipment, including fine motor skills to complete tasks requiring dexterity.
• Ability to operate manual and power tools, diagnostic equipment and large shop machinery safely.
• Adequate vision (close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception) and the ability to adjust focus as required for detailed inspections and diagnostics.
• Ability to work in various physical positions, including lying on a creeper, standing on ladders, and working underneath and above vehicles.

Work Environment Requirements:
• Ability to work in a shop environment with variable temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to diesel fumes, fluids, and chemicals.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe footwear, and hearing protection as needed.
• Ability to safely move around mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and elevated vehicles.
